Welcome
The Culture and Resilience Team is a collaboration between Dr. Winnie Ma and Dr. Aileen Torres. It started with the Paterson project-school-based interventions for recently arrived Latinx, Arabic, and Bangladeshi immigrant students in Paterson, New Jersey.
Dr. Torres and Dr. Winnie Ma also have their own on-going projects, as well. Dr. Torres has expertise in trauma and child maltreatment, particularly sexual abuse.
They are both interested in cultural factors, immigrant and ethnic/minority families, as well as resiliency.
Our Mission
The Culture and Resilience Team's mission is to study the interplay of cultural factors (i.e., ethnic identity development, immigrant family experiences) with adverse childhood experiences. The ultimate goal is to promote resiliency in at-risk community populations.
